Tokyo [Japan], June 20: Support for Japanese Prime Minister Fumio Kishida's cabinet has dropped 12 percentage points to 33 percent, after peaking with the G7 leaders meeting in the country in May, according to a poll by Japan's Prime Minister. Mainichi newspaper.
Poll results released on June 18 also showed disapproval rose to 58%, from 46% in a survey late last month. The new poll comes after a scandal involving Kishida's eldest son and a series of technical problems in the national identity card system, according to Mainichi.
The newspaper reported that support for the Kishida government had increased in the pre-G7 period in Hiroshima ( Japan ), with last month's figure being the highest since August 2022. Some speculated MrKishida would call for parliamentary elections ahead of time, amid the ruling party leadership race set to unfold next year.
